I enjoyed both capercasts with John Patterson. The conversation about a backup plan reminded me of my Navy boot camp days. My company commander liked to take me aside and offer bits of advice. One was to listen and to learn to make the normal sounds a part of your core to the point that an unusual sound would even wake you out of your sleep. The other was to be continually asking yourself what you would do if this or that failed. Good advice at sea and good advice for living.
